  • The mission of the NCCIH Division of Intramural Research (DIR) is to conduct basic, clinical, and translational research focusing on the role of the nervous system, other physiological systems, and psychosocial factors in perceiving, modifying, and managing pain. The NCCIH intramural research program provides a rich environment to train clinical and basic scientists. The vision is to develop a multidisciplinary, collaborative research program that focuses on acute and chronic pain and associated processes or conditions including those that apply to the concept of whole person health and health restoration.
